Below are some commonly asked questions related to HIV/AIDS awareness, testing, treatment, and services provided by the Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS).
What is HIV?
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. If not treated, it can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
How is HIV transmitted?
HIV is transmitted through contact with certain body fluids such as blood, semen, vaginal fluids, rectal fluids, and breast milk from a person who has HIV.
Can HIV be cured?
Currently, there is no cure for HIV. However, with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled using antiretroviral therapy (ART), allowing individuals to live long and healthy lives.
Where can I get tested for HIV?
You can get tested at any Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre (ICTC) or mobile testing unit run by MSACS across Mizoram. Testing is confidential and free of cost.
What is the role of MSACS?
The Mizoram State AIDS Control Society implements the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) in the state. It works on prevention, testing, treatment, counseling, awareness, and support for people living with HIV.
Are MSACS services free?
Yes, most services provided under MSACS, including testing, ART, counseling, and awareness programs, are offered free of charge at government centers.
Can I live a normal life with HIV?
Yes. With timely diagnosis and regular treatment, people living with HIV can lead healthy and productive lives.
Is there stigma associated with HIV?
Unfortunately, stigma still exists. MSACS actively works to reduce stigma through awareness campaigns, education, and community outreach programs.
